Gadgetan - If you are a Star Trek movie lovers would know what is called a tricorder. A handheld device that contains sensors to detect environmental anomalies such as electromagnetic phenomena to detect bacteria.

A scientist named Dr. Peter Jansen tricorder to make the project can be applied to real life. This project began when Jansen was a graduate student at McMaster University, and Jansen was conducted to design, build, and then design the open-source for the tricorder.

The first model creation Dr. Peter Jansen is Mark tricorder 1. This model is proof that the concept could be developed Tricoder. The first tricorder allows Jansen to retrieve atmospheric, electromagnetic, and spatial measurements. He went on to Mark 2, which runs Linux, features twin OLED display, and use a sensor board for swapping easier.

He is currently designing the next version of the Mark 4. Plans for the Mark 3 was left temporarily due to stray too far from the project. Dr. Peter tries to keep the latest version of the Mark 4 development is as cheap as possible and hope to be widely produced and used for general corporate purposes at a later date.

Jansen effort is not the only recent example of the tricorder capture the public imagination. Previously, Qualcomm sponsored a tricorder X Prize competition, a competition designed to spur innovation in the medical field.

According to Jansen, tricorder aims to inspire ordinary people to become more involved with science and the world around them. "My hope is that someday, every household and every child will have access to these devices and they can keep this tool in your pocket or purse, and then actually carry out this tool at any time up curiosity."
